El nuevo texto, de encomiable sencillez, actualiza las instituciones jurídico-privadas que aborda y, a la vez, goza de una gran precisión técnica, todo ello contenido sólo en 547 artículos, en contraposición a los 1976 que conforman el Código español, aunque a los primeros habría que añadirle los 166 artículos del Código de Familia cubano, aprobados anteriormente por la Ley número 1289, el 14 de febrero de 1975, y que entró en vigor el 8 de marzo de aquel mismo año. Aún así, como se contempla, se ha reducido el articulado de ambos Códigos de Cuba a casi una tercera parte respecto del aún vigente en España (y también en otros países como Puerto Rico), y sin embargo, la gran mayoría de las instituciones reguladas en el Código Civil cubano conservan, naturalmente, la impronta de aquél que durante un siglo se ha estado aplicando en la hermosa Isla caribeña.
