"Edward Fry has the uncanny as well as canny (choose your word) ability to take a complex concept?in this case vocabulary?and present it in a form useful to students and teachers."
Allen Berger, Heckert Professor of Reading and Writing, Miami University

"The Vocabulary Teacher?s Book of Lists will serve as an invaluable reference tool to any instructor involved in teaching English or designing project work. The content spans the grades from 4th up to college and is characteristic of Edward Fry?s contribution to be both comprehensive and creative."
Pat Costigan, learning consultant, Bordentown Regional School District, New Jersey

"Teachers who want to mix test-prep with life-success-prep will welcome The Vocabulary Teacher?s Book of Lists as an easy-to-use resource for lively lessons. They?ll enjoy the wry humor of Dr. Edward Fry?s teaching suggestions as he marries word work to wordplay."
Lee Mountain, professor, curriculum and instruction, College of Education, University of Houston

The Vocabulary Teacher?s Book of Lists offers content for literally hundreds of vocabulary improvement lessons for elementary and secondary teachers, self-improving adults, home schoolers, and students studying for their SATs. While there are dozens of shorter high interest lists of words, the core of the book is based on Latin and Greek roots and prefixes. But the largest list is Homophones. In fact it is one of the largest lists of homophones you will ever use. This list, like many others, is appropriate for spelling lessons or writer?s reference as well as vocabulary improvement.?There are two dozen teaching methods in the Methods chapter and teaching suggestions to help improve reading and writing are scattered throughout the book. The lessons can be as short as a word-a-day or as long as a school year. The range of difficulty can go from upper elementary to college freshman classes, and be as diverse as adult education to English language learners.

Barron's SAT Vocabulary Flash Cards is a brand-new test prep tool that presents 500 SAT high-frequency words, selected because they have appeared as key words in recent SAT reading passages and critical reading and sentence completion questions. Cards are alphabetically arranged in the box, with an extra place-marker card that students can use to gauge their word-learning progress. This vocabulary building flash card set enables SAT test takers to review words they might already know, as well as to master unfamiliar words they are likely to encounter both on the SAT and in their college courses. The front of each card lists the target word along with a guide to its pronunciation and its part of speech. The card's reverse side presents the word's definition, uses it in a sentence, and lists synonyms. Students who master all 500 words will find enclosed instructions for making their own flash cards and continuing to expand their vocabularies. Flash cards in this set each have a small punch-hole in the one corner. It accommodates an enclosed metal ring that students can use to arrange select cards for study on the go.

School can be frustrating sometimes. It seems like kids are told what to learn but not exactly "how to learn".

If your child or student needs to learn new words quickly (and they will in every subject), the Vocabulary Made Easy strategy has already helped over half a million students and will make all the difference for your child or students as well.

This strategy is taught in Wyman's continuing education courses for teachers at California State University, East Bay. She has been teaching teachers how to help kids learn and succeed in school since 1989. Teachers send back student work with pre and post test scores with every strategy in Pat Wyman's Instant Learning Series. Overwhelmingly, students receive A's on their work after using the Instant Learning strategies, including vocabulary.

Arrow through the pages and you will learn:

1. How to use visual memory to quickly recall any new word that you learn
2. How to make the most of your memory in vocabulary and other subjects as well
3. The association picture technique that all memory experts use
4. How to raise your child's or students' grades in all subjects as they learn new vocabulary
