INSTRUMENT RATING Practical Test Standards for AIRPLANE, HELICOPTER, and POWERED LIFT Take a look at the sample for this book and for details about downloading 500 free US military manuals as a thank you for taking the time to look at our book. General Information The Flight Standards Service of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has developed this practical test as the standard that shall be used by FAA examiners1 when conducting instrument rating—airplane, helicopter, and powered lift practical tests, and instrument proficiency checks for all aircraft. This practical test standard (PTS) shall also be used for the instrument portion of the commercial pilot—airship practical test. Instructors are expected to use this PTS when preparing applicants for practical tests. Applicants should be familiar with this PTS and refer to these standards during their training. This PTS sets forth the practical test requirements for the addition of an instrument rating to a pilot certificate in airplanes, helicopters, and powered-lift aircraft. Information considered directive in nature is described in this PTS book in terms, such as “shall” and “must,” indicating the actions are mandatory. Guidance information is described in terms, such as “should” and “may,” indicating the actions are desirable or permissive, but not mandatory. The FAA gratefully acknowledges the valuable assistance provided by many industry participants who contributed their time and talent in assisting with the revision of these practical test standards. SEAPLANE, SKIPLANE, and FLOAT/SKI EQUIPPED HELICOPTER OPERATIONS HANDBOOK ON KINDLE Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Take a look at the sample for this book for details about downloading 500 free US military manuals as a thank you for taking the time to look at our book. PREFACE This operational handbook introduces the basic skills necessary for piloting seaplanes, skiplanes, and helicopters equipped with floats or skis. It is developed by the Flight Standards Service, Airman Testing Standards Branch, in cooperation with various aviation educators and industry. This handbook is primarily intended to assist pilots who already hold private or commercial certificates and who are learning to fly seaplanes, skiplanes, or helicopters equipped for water or ski operations. It is also beneficial to rated seaplane pilots who wish to improve their proficiency, pilots preparing for flights using ski equipped aircraft, and flight instructors engaged in the instruction of both student and transitioning pilots. It introduces the future seaplane or skiplane pilot to the realm of water operations and cold weather operations, and provides information on the performance of procedures required for the addition of a sea class rating in airplanes. Information on general piloting skills, aeronautical knowledge, or flying techniques not directly related to water or cold weather operations are beyond the scope of this book, but are available in other Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) publications. This handbook conforms to pilot training and certification concepts established by the FAA. There are different ways of teaching, as well as performing specific operating procedures, and many variations in the explanations of operating from water, snow, and ice. This handbook is not comprehensive, but provides a basic knowledge that can serve as a foundation on which to build further knowledge. The discussion and explanations reflect commonly used practices and principles. Occasionally the word “must” or similar language is used where the desired action is deemed critical. The use of such language is not intended to add to, interpret, or relieve a duty imposed by Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR). FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR INSTRUMENT Practical Test Standards for AIRPLANE and HELICOPTER Take a look at the sample for this book and for details about downloading 500 free US military manuals as a thank you for taking the time to look at our book. General Information The Flight Standards Service of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has developed this practical test book as the standard that must be used by FAA examiners1 when conducting flight instructor— instrument (airplane and helicopter) practical tests. Flight instructors are expected to use this book when preparing applicants for practical tests. Applicants should be familiar with this book and become familiar with these standards during their training. It is important to note that pilot training must not be limited solely to meeting the TASKS and Objectives in this book. TASKS and Objectives are simply means to determine if an applicant meets the regulatory standards for the certificate or rating sought. Applicants should be trained using the references cited in this book. The FAA gratefully acknowledges the valuable assistance provided by many industry participants who contributed their time and talent in assisting with the revision of these practical test standards. AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT AND AIRCRAFT TYPE RATING Practical Test Standards for HELICOPTER ON KINDLE Take a look at the sample for this book for details about downloading 500 free US military manuals as a thank you for taking the time to look at our book. FOREWORD The Airline Transport Pilot and Aircraft Type Rating — Helicopter Practical Test Standards (PTS) book has been published by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to establish the standards for airline transport pilot and aircraft type rating practical tests for helicopters. FAA inspectors, designated pilot examiners, and check airmen (referred to as examiners throughout the remaining practical test standards) shall conduct practical tests in compliance with these standards. Flight instructors and applicants should find these standards helpful in practical test preparation. INTRODUCTION General Information The Flight Standards Service of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has developed this practical test standard (PTS) book to be used by examiners when conducting airline transport pilot and aircraft type rating practical tests (knowledge of the equipment and flight tasks) in helicopters. Instructors are expected to use this book when preparing applicants for practical tests. Applicants should refer to these standards during their training. Information considered directive in nature is described in this practical test standard in terms such as “shall” and “must” indicating the actions are mandatory. Guidance information is described in terms such as “should” and “may” indicating the actions are desirable or permissive but not mandatory. FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR Practical Test Standards for ROTORCRAFT, HELICOPTER, GYROPLANE Take a look at the sample for this book and for details about downloading 500 free US military manuals as a thank you for taking the time to look at our book. INTRODUCTION The Flight Standards Service of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has developed this practical test book as a standard to be used by FAA inspectors and designated pilot examiners when conducting flight instructor—rotorcraft (helicopter) and flight instructor—rotorcraft (gyroplane) practical tests. Flight instructors are expected to use this book when preparing flight instructor applicants for practical tests. Applicants should be familiar with this book and refer to these standards during their training. The FAA gratefully acknowledges the valuable assistance provided by many industry participants who contributed their time and talent in assisting with the revision of these practical test standards. Contents include: Basic Laws Aerodynamics; Dynamics Hovering flight; Dynamics Forward Flight; Helicopter Stability and Control; Special Piloting Problems and Helicopter Structures.
