For the first time, all data for recordings of non-classical piano made for issue on disc and cylinder records prior to 1935 are brought together in this work. The majority of the listing consists of material which has never been published in any form. The volume includes piano solos, duets, trios, and quartets, as well as selected titles where a soloist is featured within a recording by a dance band or orchestra. It covers a wide variety of pianists and piano styles including ragtime, stride, novelty-syncopated, boogie, and blues. This work will be of interest to major libraries, archives, and schools of music, as well as researchers and collectors.

The recordings covered in this work range from the earliest known piano recordings which were made in 1889 as cylinder records for the North American Phonograph Company through recordings of the early 1930s by some of the great jazz pianists of that era (Mary Lou Williams, Garland Wilson, Herman Chittison, Art Tatum, and Teddy Wilson). In between are a wide variety of pianists and piano styles from around the world. While many of the solos recorded were of popular tunes of the day, there is also a fascinating selection of piano compositions, often played by the composer. They include such well-known names as Felix Arndt, Nacio Herb Brown, Hoagy Carmichael, Rudolf Friml, George Gershwin, John W. Green, Ferdie Grofe, Ralph Rainger, Leslie Stuart, Clarence Williams, and Vincent Youmans. A comprehensive title index includes composer credits for the majority of titles listed.

This is the first book to address in depth the interplay between radicalisation and political violence in Europe, as well as the effectiveness of counter-measures.

As evidenced from the multitude of intercepted plots across several European cities since 2001, the threat level and the intensity of the desire to perpetrate mass-casualty attacks within Europe is not diminishing. While violent radicalization has gradually moved to the top of the EU counterterrorism agenda, it has been accompanied by a relatively embryonic understanding about the processes and interplay of factors that contribute to radicalization, which are played out differently in cities like Paris, Rome, London and Copenhagen. Undoubtedly, there are common factors at the global and regional levels that facilitate radicalization, but it is also clear that radicalization is very context dependent. This book provides crucial insights into different ways to understand violent radicalization within national contexts and the challenges addressing the many pathways into terrorism inspired by al-Qaeda and other forms of Islamic extremism.

Magnus Ranstorp is Research Director of the Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies at the Swedish National Defence College and a Member of EU Expert Groups on (Violent) Radicalisation. Ian Cameron is Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Queensland with teaching, research, and consulting activities in process systems engineering. He has a particular interest in process modelling, dynamic simulation, and the application of functional systems perspectives to risk management, having extensive industrial experience in these areas. He continues to work closely with industry and government on systems approaches to process and risk management issues. He received his BE from the University of New South Wales (Australia) and his PhD from imperial College London. He is a Fellow of IChemE.

Rafiqul Gani is a Professor of Systems Design at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, and the director of the Computer Aided Product-Process Engineering Center (CAPEC). His research interests include the development of computer-aided methods and tools for modelling, property estimation and process-product synthesis and design. He received his BSc from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1975, and his MSc in 1976 and PhD in 1980 from Imperial College London. He is the editor-in-chief of Computers and Chemical Engineering journal and Fellow of IChemE as well as AIChE.
