It is widely believed that a part of the Serbian intellectual elite should be held responsible for the outbursts of nationalism in the 1980's, justification of the Greater Serbian ideas in the 1990's, and for hindering the europeisation of Serbia by reviving old hatreds and constructing the new ones. A functional identity can be informally described as an identical relation involving arbitrary elements in an associative ring together with arbitrary (unknown) functions. The theory of functional identities is a relatively new one, and this is the first book on this subject. The book is accessible to a wide audience and touches on a variety of mathematical areas such as ring theory, algebra and operator theory.

The aim of this edited book will be to provide reader an overview how metabolic syndrome can be tackled using systems biology, with challenges and opportunities. The specific aims are to provide an introduction to key biological processes involved in the pathophysiology of MetS, to provide an introduction to key technologies utilized using systems approached to study MetS through examples, and to overview mathematical modeling approaches to study metabolic syndrome, with examples to applications. The target audiences are students (of medicine, biology, systems biology, bioinformatics) as well as experienced researchers in specific fields relevant to MetS who may use the book as a reference. The strength and unique position of the book is its focus on applications of selected technologies and models to tackle specific pathophysiologically relevant aspects of metabolic syndrome.
